Gundog Basic Training

Looking to unlock your dog’s potential? Our Gundog Basic Training program is designed to establish essential obedience skills, skilled retrieval, and "whoa" training to enhance your dog’s natural instincts.

Tailored for dogs aged 6 months and older, this comprehensive training will prepare your pet for upland field hunting—teaching them to locate birds, hold points, and retrieve downed game directly to your hand. Additionally, weather permitting, we include basic water retrieves to ensure the well-rounded development of your gundog. 

Program Duration and Costs

The typical duration for our Gundog Basic Training is approximately 3 months, although this may vary based on your dog’s individual progress. For a fee of $750 per month, we offer a discount for dogs purchased from Red Rooster Retrievers. Please note that bird costs are not included. 

Participate in Hunt Tests

For those looking to take their training further, we actively participate in hunt tests every spring and fall. If you wish, we can handle your dog during these tests for a nominal fee of $50 per test. You will also be responsible for the hunt test entrance fee, approximately $95 for Certified Pointing Retriever, and variable costs for Advanced and Master level tests.
